I just watched a Gerhard Richter doc and he told a story about his first show in New York.He made some paintings the were just one shade of gray. He said some kids came up to him and said “These paintings were very nice, but the gray ones, those are bullshit.”
That’s funny. Yeah, I used to go to an art expo in L.A. with “modern art”, and I’d often see that kind of nonsense as well. Nothing but a big canvas painted a solid color, and some suckers would actually shell out lettuce for that stuff. Amazing.
